Chris Crellin

Second ISPOLE seminar of the year!

Speaker: Prof. Damien Simmoneau (INALCO, Paris)

Title: "Pourquoi s'emmurer ?", tackling border militarization from the field of border studies and political science

Abstract: Pourquoi s'emmurer ? Essai sur une frénésie planétaire (Stock 2024) is an essay to summarize research from the dynamic field of border studies to the general audience to tackle the global phenomenon of border militarization. More and more States are indeed resorting to border walls to deal with multiple "threats". However, tools from social sciences and political science can help compare different situations of border militarization and understand the political processes at stake. The discussion will also address the question of writing and diffusion out of academic circles.
